The enrollment target is mainly junior high school graduates with a 3-year schooling system. The technical school implements a combination of teaching practice and scientific research and production. After decades of reform and development, technical schools have formed the coexistence of junior high school and advanced training, combining academic education with vocational qualification certificate education, a multi-level, multi-functional and diversified vocational training system, covering machinery, electronics, aviation, electric power, and petroleum. Nearly 30 departments and systems including, metallurgy and railways. In 1998, there were 4,362 technical schools nationwide, with 1.81 million students and 680,000 graduates. Among them, there are 266 national and key technical schools and 63 advanced technical schools.
